Authentic Leadership Advisors Terms & Agreement

I look forward to working with you as your coach in accelerating your ability to be more successful and to have more of what you want in your life. Having a clear Coaching Agreement establishes a foundation for our work. Please let me know if you have any questions.

What is coaching?

Coaching is a specific process of interaction over a period of time that encourages a shift in who you are, what you do, and how you do it. This respectful, inquiring form of conversation and listening expands your ability to make significant changes, move forward in new areas and have more of what you want in your life. Coaching services are not to be construed as, or a replacement for, psychotherapy, legal counsel, or medical advice.

As your coach, you can expect me to:

  • Maintain all certifications necessary to adhere to the ethical standards and requirements of the International Coach Federation.
  • Commit to an open, honest, collaborative coaching relationship.
  • Be a partner in bringing out the best, the deepest, and the truest in you.
  • Provide safety, encouragement and support—an environment in which you can relax and explore.
  • Respect the confidentiality agreement we make, to the extent permitted by law (in an organizational setting, we will also clarify the extent of the confidentiality before beginning the coaching relationship. In the case of a sponsor paying for the coaching, there will be some goal setting by both the sponsor and by you and we must together report to the sponsor periodically.) Given the personalized techniques employed by the coach to foster individual client growth, the client should keep this information confidential and not try to replicate it with other persons.
  • Expand your view of what is possible and promote discovery of new insights.
  • Give you input, straight feedback and operate as a sounding board.
  • Listen carefully to what you say and ask questions to provoke awareness.
  • Be a resource for you to use in accomplishing your goals.

As my client, I expect you to:

  • Cultivate a core of honesty with yourself.
  • Commit yourself to goals that are truly meaningful and significant to you.
  • Experiment with new approaches and practice new behaviors.
  • Provide ongoing feedback on whether the coaching is valuable and meeting your needs.
  • Be open to hearing my feedback and letting me know whether it fits.
  • Take ownership for your progress and accomplishments.

Nature of the coaching relationship:

You enter into coaching with the understanding that you are fully responsible for creating your own decisions and results. You agree to not hold me liable for any outcomes resulting directly or indirectly from the coaching process. It’s also important to understand that the process of coaching is generally not a linear one with steady progress towards your goals. More often there are ups, downs, and plateaus along the way.


All written and oral information and materials disclosed or shared between ALA and Client under this Agreement is Confidential Information regardless of whether it was provided before or after the date of this Agreement or how it was provided to Client. Such information includes trade secrets and intellectual property of ALA including, but not limited to, its methods, techniques, curriculum and exercises.


To ensure the most productive use of the coaching time, come to each session prepared with an area of focus. Take a few minutes before our next session to sort out the progress you made since our last session and to consider how you would like to use the upcoming session.


Several factors will speed up our work together. As much as possible, come to each coaching session with a clear intention. Feel free to e-mail that information ahead of time. Only agree to action plans that you fully intend to carry out, and then go for it! If you are unable to follow through as you intended, be prepared to talk about what got in the way, and how to best address that barrier so that it does not continue to interfere with your positive momentum.


It is important to keep our financial agreement clean and clear. Clients can pay for the entire coaching package up front, or pay in monthly installments on or before the start of each month of service. Discounts may be offered for upfront package payment. Refunds will be made if the coaching relationship ends prior to the completion of the coaching package that has been paid for by the client. If a credit card was used to purchase the coaching package, the refund will be reduced by either 4% (four percent) or the amount of bank charges incurred by Authentic Leadership Advisors.


Showing up late to a session can sometimes happen. If we begin late, the session time missed may be lost. If a session needs to run over the allotted time, additional payment may be requested.

Value added:

Sometimes you just cannot wait until your next session. You may have a short question or request for feedback. You may need a confidential response to some situation. As a value added, I offer my regular clients free telephone and e-mail consultations of fewer than ten minutes between sessions, within reason.


I have reserved your time for you. If the need arises, please give me 48 hours notice and we will reschedule. Without proper notice, or a legitimate emergency, you will be responsible for the cost of the session. I will notify you promptly if I need to reschedule one of our meetings. Please communicate all needed scheduling changes via email.


Honesty is a very important foundation. Please do not be “nice” as a way to protect either one of us. I expect you to honestly tell me what is working about the coaching relationship, and what is not working for you. If I ever say or do something that upsets you or does not feel right, please bring it up. I promise to do whatever I can to have you be satisfied. Honesty and trust are critical for our relationship to grow. I want this to be an open and safe place for you to come with confidence.

Ending Agreement:

If either of us at any time feels that we are not the ‘ideal fit’ for the coaching exchange, we are 100% responsible for sharing our concerns with each other. As stated in the ICF Code of Ethics, I am responsible to refer you to a different coach if I feel my particular specialty is not properly serving you.

ICF Hours Tracking:

As part of my commitment to maintaining my proper standing and certification standards with the International Coach Federation (ICF), I will keep a record of our coaching hours and your contact information on file.
